Volume II of the Lithuanian National Atlas is a cartographic work, in which, for the first time, the historical development of our country is presented in detail and at the same time quite concisely. The main goal of this publication is to visually provide the Lithuanian and world public with information about historical phenomena and processes that took place in Lithuanian lands from the earliest to the most recent times. The history of the country is presented in a broad context in order to facilitate the understanding of the origin of the Lithuanian nation, the social and economic development of our state and its place and contribution to the development of European civilization. Volume II of the Lithuanian National Atlas consists of four large chapters, which reflect the stages of the formation of the Lithuanian nation, the formation of the state, occupations and the development of the independent Republic of Lithuania. The volume concludes with a cartographic representation of political, social, economic, cultural and spiritual phenomena at the end of the last period of Soviet occupation. An important part of this historical volume is a comprehensive chronological collection of events, phenomena and processes, revealing historical developments. It presents in detail the most important facts that help to understand their significance during the most important historical events for the Lithuanian nation. The historical volume of the Lithuanian National Atlas is the result of many years of research. Most of the atlas maps are new, exclusive works created using a variety of archival sources and detailed primary statistics. The other part of the maps is based on already published works: the Universal Lithuanian Encyclopedia, atlases of history, scientific monographs and articles. The maps have been adjusted according to the latest research results.
